Marengo plans ‘Dancing’ event
MARENGO – The city of Marengo will host its own version of the hit TV show “Dancing with the Stars” next month.
At 7 p.m. Aug. 1, several teams of local officials and business owners will compete for a chance to raise money for a newly established scholarship fund with LTW Studio of Dance.
“There are many children in the community who would benefit tremendously from the dance experience, but cannot afford the lessons,” studio owner Tammy Herring said in a news release. “With the success of this event, instead of turning people away, we can make the dream come true for at least five young people who would be able to experience the fun and happiness that the love of dance is meant to be.”
The scholarship committee hopes to raise $2,000 at the event.
The scholarships would pay for lessons and costumes for the students’ recitals.
Teams participating in the competition are:
• Mayor Donald Lockhart and Donna Roney, representing city government staff.
• Alderman Corey Brackmann and Lori Brackmann, representing the Marengo Rescue Squad District.
• The Rev. Gordy Gottfred and Glenda Gottfred, representing local churches.
• Mark and Courtney Pankow, representing the Marengo Fire Protection District.
• Bob Levin and Molly Wallner, representing local business owners.
• Principal Scott Shepard and Heather Shepard, representing Marengo Community High School.
Audience participation is requested to determine the winners. The event will take place at the high school’s auditorium, 110 Franks Road.
General admission for advanced ticket sales costs $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 3 to 12.
Tickets cost $9 at the door for adults and $7 for children ages 3 to 12.
Tickets can be bought at Levin’s Shoes and Dry Goods, Covenant Baptist Church, and LTW Studio of Dance.
