River no-wake rules lifted

FOX LAKE – The Fox Waterway Agency has lifted the no-wake restriction on the lower Fox River.

The river between the dams in Algonquin and McHenry had been declared no-wake because of high water levels. Restrictions on the upper river and Chain O’ Lakes were lifted earlier this week.

From 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, for the Chain O’ Lakes fireworks display, there will be a temporary no-wake zone from the Grass Lake bridge south to Route 12, as well as north of Lippincott Point to Crabapple Island.

The temporary no-wake zone was approved by the Fox Waterway Agency Board of Directors on June 25 after a request by the Illinois Conservation Police and the Lake County Sheriff that cited safety concerns.

A no-boat zone also was approved around the barge loading areas at Point Comfort.

Maps are available on the Fox Waterway Agency’s Web site, www.foxwaterway.state.il.us.
