Cap and tax

To the Editor:

Thanks Rep. Don Manzullo for voting “no” on cap and tax. Rep Melissa Bean, who represents myself, voted “yes.”

When I hear politicians say “forward-thinking policy” (Bean’s words), I try and guard my wallet.

The claim that it will reduce global temperature is somewhat true (.005 degrees over 30 years). One of the lobbyists is Exelon (ComEd). Al Gore is another. Did you know his estimated wealth went from $10 million leaving the White House to more than $100 million in global warming investments? Some claim that he will be the first billionaire global warming expert.

Estimates are that your utilities will go up $1,200 a year and gasoline will top $7 a gallon. I think this will help GM sell those mini-cars. It still needs the Senate to pass.

I am sure Dick Durbin, yes-man for the president, will be voting “no.”

Also, thanks Rep. Jack Franks for the guest column (Opinion, June 27) and representing us.

Not until spending is under control should we be thinking about raising taxes.
