Sheriff’s employees to host food drive

WOODSTOCK – Two sheriff’s administrative specialists decided to combat the poor economy by hosting their own food drive Friday.

“Every time we’re turning around, we’re hearing about someone losing their job, having to take a pay cut, [or] losing value in their home,” Cindee Bockman said.

Bockman and DeAnn Finke said they felt fortunate to have stable jobs and wanted to give back to the community.

They will collect nonperishable food from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the former Cardunal Savings Bank, 2100 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock.

Volunteers will be at Huntley Wal-Mart, 12300 Route 47, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The drive is sponsored by the sheriff’s office, the Huntley Wal-Mart and the Police Benevolent and Protective Association – McHenry County Sheriff’s Lodge No. 192.

For every 10 items donated, the donor will receive a chance to win a 37-inch flat screen TV donated by Wal-Mart and the lodge.

The TV’s value is about $600.

The drawing for the TV will be about 4:45 p.m. at the Woodstock drop-off location, but the winner does not have to be present.

The Salvation Army of McHenry County will distribute the donated food to pantries throughout the county.

For information, call Bockman at 815-334-4750 or Finke at 815-334-4760.
