Apparent drowning victim was diver

SLEEPY HOLLOW – Police are investigating the death of a 19-year-old accomplished competitive swimmer who appears to have drowned in her pool Saturday morning.

About 4:55 a.m. emergency crews were dispatched to the home of Anna Schneider in the 0-100 block of Katrina Drive in Sleepy Hollow. Schneider was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elgin but was pronounced dead.

A 2008 Dundee-Crown High School graduate, Schneider recently completed her freshman year at the University of Hawaii, where she was a marine biology student. Schneider was also a certified scuba diver and passionate surfer.

The incident remains under investigation, and police declined to release any additional information.
