Man airlifted after partially amputating thumb

FOX LAKE – A man was flown to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge this morning after partially amputating his thumb.

The man had been using a table saw in the area of Lake Shore Drive and Grass Lake Road when he cut himself, said Assistant Chief Ed Lescher of the Fox Lake Fire Department.

He and another person were driving to the hospital when they decided to call 911 about 9:30 a.m. Flight for Life landed in a grassy field across from the Jewel at the corner of Routes 12 and 134.

The injury was not life-threatening, but Lescher said it was unclear if the thumb would be able to be saved.
