Police seek car that caused 3-way crash

CRYSTAL LAKE – A three-vehicle crash closed one southbound lane of Route 31 to close near Route 14 during the evening rush hour Monday.

Crystal Lake police are looking for the unidentified blue car that came to a quick, unexpected stop at 4:42 p.m. that caused the two cars behind it to hit each other and a third car to hit the median.

A 2006 Toyota RAV 4 was forced to stop to avoid the blue car, but a 2008 Hyundai Veracruz behind the Toyota stuck the vehicle. A 2009 Nissan SL2 behind the Hyundai was forced to swerve to avoid hitting the other cars, and ended up striking the cement median instead.

No injuries were reported, Staff Sgt. Derek Hyrkas said.

No citations were issued, but anyone with information about the blue car of an unknown make and model are asked to contact the Crystal Lake Police Department.
