Wake board, fireworks show set for Saturday

FOX RIVER GROVE – Preparations are under way for the village’s annual fireworks and wakeboard show this weekend.

The event is set for 6 p.m. Saturday at Picnic Grove Park in Fox River Grove. Residents, community groups, and local businesses all donate money to support the village event, Village Clerk Donna Brouder said.

“It should be a nice night,” she said. “We put on one of the best shows in the area.”

Admission to the park is free, but food and drinks are not allowed to be brought in to the park. The Fox River Grove Lions Club, Lioness Club, and the Cary-Grove Jaycees plan to sell food and drinks in the park.

This year, after the Raging Buffalo Wake Board Show, village officials and local groups plan to dedicate a memorial plaque, tree and park benches at the park to former Village President Kay Laube, who died in office last year.

The wake board show, featuring stunts and demonstrations, is expected to start about 7 p.m. Fireworks are to begin at dusk, Brouder said. Admission to the park ends at 9 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to take one of the shuttle bus services to the park as there is no parking nearby, Brouder said.

Three bus routes are planned, including one at the Fox River Grove Metra lot and Algonquin Road School.

There also will be a Victoria Woods, Hunters Farm, Welch’s subdivision route and a Foxmoor route.

For specific shuttle stop information, call Village Hall at 847-639-3170.
