Four days of barbecue, music
LAKE IN THE HILLS – While the festival’s headliner, Starship, may have built a city on rock ’n’ roll, the Lake in the Hills Rotary has built its Rockin’ Rotary Ribfest on ribs, and lots of them.
Some of the best barbecuers in the country will descend on Sunset Park today, bringing enough sauce varieties to satisfy even the pickiest rib lover.
The four-day fest of meat and music is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Lake in the Hills Rotary, a club now in its fifth year.
“Our rib vendors travel from all over,” said Steve Swanson, president of the Lake in the Hills Rotary. “And each one has different flavors, sauces and varieties.”
This is the Rotary’s fourth Ribfest, and it will offer bigger musical acts than ever before, Swanson said.
“Our entertainment is of a higher caliber this year,” he said, adding that the lineup includes Starship, Superchick and nine other bands.
Little Nashville, a musical act for children, is slated for noon Saturday.
Entry to the festival is $5, and all money raised from admission and the sale of water, beer and hot dogs will go to the Rotary.
“That money will go out to local groups and help the Rotary meet its main goal, the eradication of polio,” Swanson said.
This year’s lineup includes a car show from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. And, as always, participants will get to vote to determine the festival’s best ribs.
“Come on out, and we’ll show you a good time,” Swanson said.
