JC Penney employee accused of theft

JOHNSBURG – A Lakemoor woman faces a July 31 court date for allegedly stealing from the Johnsburg JC Penney store where she worked.

Beverly J. Farkas, 37, has been charged with felony theft for allegedly stealing items worth at least $1,458. Farkas, who lives at 328 Lily Lane, supposedly used her own and others’ receipts to credit her debit card without actually giving back the purchased items, said Johnsburg Police Chief Ken Rydberg.

“She was taking return credits without returning merchandise,” Rydberg said.

Because the estimated dollar amount exceeded $300, the charge is a felony, he said.

Farkas was arrested at the store late last month after JC Penney contacted Johnsburg police. Additional charges could be filed, Rydberg said.
