Algonquin board
retires old village seal

ALGONQUIN – The old village seal is officially retired, only to make an appearance now on special occasions.

The Algonquin Village Board on Tuesday named the seal that is used throughout the village its official seal.

The old seal featured the impression of an American Indian’s head wearing a headdress in the center flanked by “Village of Algonquin” and “Incorporated Feb. 1890.” That seal now will be called the historic village seal.

The new seal is the one villagers probably are more familiar with. It features an outline of the tower of Historic Village Hall in the middle, framed by the Fox River and prairie grass, with the inscription “Village of Algonquin 1890” across the top. That seal is the one above Village President John Schmitt’s head in the village boardroom.

Village Manager Bill Ganek said the old seal was outdated and worn.

“The old seal will still be available for certain historic uses,” he said
