WOODSTOCK – A 26-year-old Northbrook man was arrested at his own wedding reception after he allegedly punched a guest and improperly had six guns, police said.

The reception deteriorated into a “drunken brawl” about 6:50 p.m. Sunday, when Huntley police arrived at a home on Nicollet Lane to find several family members yelling and Sean T. Kelly’s roommate with a bloody face, Chief John Perkins said.

“It sounds like there was a lot of drinking involved,” Perkins said. “It sounds like [Kelly] thought [the alleged victim] said something derogatory about another family member.”

While talking with police, Kelly told them he would like to remove items from his trunk to a more secure location, Perkins said. Those items turned out to be six guns and 39 rounds of ammunition, Perkins said.

“When he was taking the guns out of the trunk, the officers checked on him and discovered his card had been revoked,” Perkins said, adding he didn’t know why Kelly’s Firearm Owner’s Identification Card had been revoked.

The alleged victim was treated at the scene, and Kelly was taken to jail, where he remained after being unable to post 10 percent of his $50,000 bail.

Kelly was charged with six counts of possession of a gun with a revoked Firearm Owner’s Identification Card, a single count of possession of ammunition with a revoked Firearm Owner’s Identification Card and misdemeanor domestic battery.

If convicted of the most serious charge, he could be sentenced to a maximum of two to five years in prison.

His next court date is Monday.
