15 years in prison for men involved in home invasion

BARRINGTON HILLS – Two men have been sentenced to 15 years in prison for a Barrington Hills home invasion where police said they bound and gagged family members for an hour and a half.

Frederick Neal, 34, of Rockford and Leville Starks, 32, of Poplar Grove, both pleaded guilty in negotiated plea agreements to one count of home invasion, a Class X felony. They had also been charged with aggravated kidnapping, armed robbery, residential burglary and aggravated unlawful restraint.

The incident occurred during the early morning hours of Aug. 16 in the area of Bateman Road and Bateman Circle. Cash, jewelry, and electronics were taken, but no serious injuries were reported.

A third man charged in the incident, Anthony Starks, 36, has pleaded not guilty. His case is scheduled for trial Aug. 3 in Cook County court.

The three men are also facing similar charges in Kane County in connection with a home invasion Aug. 22 in Elgin.
