Man gets jail for DUI crash
By NORTHWEST HERALD
WOODSTOCK – A 29-year-old Crystal Lake man is serving a six-month jail sentence for driving drunk during a one-car crash that injured him and a passenger.
McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather also sentenced Ryan J. Uding on Tuesday to two years of probation, 200 hours of public service, and $3,262 in fines and court costs. He also could be monitored electronically for up to 120 days after he is released from jail.
Uding, of 8801 N. Alto Vista Lane, pleaded guilty to aggravated drunken driving June 30 in exchange for prosecutors dropping several related charges. He could have been sentenced to up to seven years in prison.
Uding was driving north in snowy conditions in the 2300 block of Crystal Lake Road on Feb. 3, 2007, when his car veered east off the roadway and struck a tree. A small fire started in the vehicle.
Prosecutors asked for a 3½-year prison term because Uding’s blood-alcohol level was about 0.25 percent – more than three times the legal limit – and because the latest conviction was his third DUI, said Nichole Owens, chief of the State’s Attorney’s Criminal Division.
“The crash was fairly significant,” Owens said.
