Woodstock woman dies following early morning crash

By NORTHWEST HERALD

LILY LAKE – An 88-year-old Woodstock woman is dead and four other people are injured following an early morning crash today near the intersection of Route 47 and Empire Road in Lily Lake.

A gray Ford Escape with four occupants was traveling north on Route 47 just south of Empire Road about 1:45 a.m. when a southbound Buick Regal entered the northbound lane of traffic and struck the Escape, said Lt. Patrick Gengler of the Kane County Sheriff's Department.

Anita Schwake of the 1500 block of North Madison St., Woodstock was pronounced dead upon her arrival at Delnor Hospital in Geneva . She was the rear driver's-side passenger in the 2002 Escape, Gengler said.

The driver of the 1990 Buick, Evan A. Florian, 23, of the 1000 block of Meadow Lane in Sycamore, was ejected from his vehicle. He was transported to Delnor Hospital in Geneva where he was listed in critical condition earlier today.

Gengler said paramedics wanted to use Flight for Life helicopters to transport some of the injured to area hospitals, but the early morning fog was too thick for the helicopters to land.

This was the second fatal crash the Kane County Sheriff's Department had handled in less than 24 hours, and the third in the past week.

The following occupants of the Escape were transported to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin: driver Lawrence Sova, 38, of the 4000 block of Crestwood Street in McHenry; front-seat passenger Heather Sova, 33, also of the 4000 block of Crestwood Street in McHenry; and rear passenger-side passenger Nancy McMillan, 62, of the 1500 block of North Madison Street, Woodstock.

A nursing supervisor said the Sovas were treated and released. McMillan is hospitalized in fair condition.

Route 47 was closed in the vicinity of the crash until 6 a.m. as Kane County Sheriff's deputies and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the crash, which remains under scrutiny. No charges have been filed.
