CRYSTAL LAKE – There’s nothing like being in a must-win situation to get a team’s attention. Crystal Lake Central’s boys soccer team entered Tuesday trailing Johnsburg and Prairie Ridge by a game in the loss column in the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division standings with the season winding down. Central defeated Johnsburg, 3-1, to avenge a 2-1 loss to the Skyhawks this season. “We played with some urgency,” Tigers coach Jay Schwarzrock said. “I just wish we played with the same sense of urgency the first time we played them.” Joey Seldan and Tyler Fehring scored in the first half to give Central (13-7-1 overall, 7-2 FVC Fox) a 2-0 lead. Sam Kruse’s goal in the second half made it 3-0 before Dakota Pruitt scored for Johnsburg (10-4-2, 8-2) to end the shutout bid of Tom Breen, who made five saves. “We did a better job of controlling the ball in the middle in the first half,” Schwarzrock said. “Overall, we kept them moving, and that allowed us to control the tempo from most of the game.” Prairie Ridge 1, Grayslake Central 0: At Grayslake, Taylor Bennett scored on a free kick from 25 yards out to give the Wolves (10-6-3, 9-1) an FVC Fox victory against the Rams (3-11, 2-6).
