WOODSTOCK – An elderly woman was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital Saturday afternoon after being struck by a teenage driver in Woodstock.

Woodstock Police and Fire Departments responded to the accident at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Tryon Street about 4:30 p.m., Fire Lt. Brendan Parker said.

Mitchell Schnulle, 17, of Wonder Lake, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Impala north on Tryon Street when he struck 86-year-old Lois Freund, who was walking across Tryon Street in the crosswalk, Woodstock police Sgt. Dennis Leard said.

Given the severity of Freund’s injuries, she was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Parker said.

Schnulle was charged with failure to yield right of way to a pedestrian is a crosswalk, Leard said.
