Athlete

of the Week

THOMAS ROSE,
McHenry, senior

The Warriors quarterback completed 33 of 51 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns as McHenry nearly knocked off unbeaten Cary-Grove. The Trojans needed a last-minute touchdown for a 31-28 victory.

Rose, the area’s leader in passing yardage, also rushed for a touchdown in the first half as the Warriors took a 7-3 halftime lead.

Rose was masterful against a defense which had allowed six points in the first six games this season. Wide receiver Trevor Marunde caught 10 passes for 117 yards.

Noteworthy

Doing it all: Johnsburg wide receiver-linebacker C.J. Fiedorowicz rarely leaves the field on Friday nights. When he’s not playing offense or defense, he longsnaps or returns kickoffs.

Fiedorowicz, a 6-foot-6, 250-pounder committed to Illinois, played running back in Week 6 when Justin Peete was injured early against Woodstock, then showed his versatility again Friday when he stepped in at quarterback. Skyhawks quarterback George Bielis was injured in the first half when he hit his throwing elbow on a helmet.

Skyhawks coach Barry Creviston called Bielis’ situation day-to-day. He said Bielis felt much better Sunday than he had Friday night.

“It was his ulna nerve, the funny bone, but it was worse than when you bump your arm,” Creviston said.

The Skyhawks need Bielis badly for Friday’s game at Prairie Ridge. Johnsburg should reach five victories, but might not have enough playoff points. Thus, the Skyhawks want to reach six victories to be certain they reach the postseason.

This Week’s

Top Games

Crystal Lake South

(7-0, 3-0) vs.

Cary-Grove (7-0, 3-0)

7:15 p.m. Friday

Al Bohrer Field

The game of the year finally is here. South is ranked No. 6 in Class 7A, C-G is ranked No. 1 in Class 6A. C-G has won the last four regular-season games.

The winner likely will be sole champion in the FVC Valley Division.

Johnsburg (4-3, 2-2)

vs. Prairie Ridge (5-2, 3-1)

7:15 p.m. Friday

Prairie Ridge

Athletic Stadium

Johnsburg desperately needs a victory for a chance to get to six wins, because it might not have enough playoff points.

Prairie Ridge still has a chance for a share of the FVC Fox Division title.

Marian Central (5-2, 3-1)

vs. St. Edward (5-2, 2-2)

7 p.m. Friday

Greg True Field

Marian won three dramatic games in the past three weeks against Immaculate Conception, Montini and St. Francis to put itself back into the playoff picture. With another win Friday, and a forfeit victory in Week 9 from Driscoll, which closed its doors in June, the Hurricanes might get a first-round home game.

Rockford Christian

(7-0, 7-0)

vs. Alden-Hebron (6-1, 6-1)

1 p.m. Saturday, at Hebron

A-H likely cannot win the Northeastern Athletic Conference title outright after a Week 6 loss to Mooseheart, but the Giants can earn a share if they knock off the Royal Lions.
