JOHNSBURG – The Johnsburg girls tennis team used its overall depth Tuesday to sweep through the Spirit of the Northwest Tournament. The Skyhawks earned 31 points to take first place in the tournament for the 11th year in a row.

“We work for our kids to play their best tennis at the end of the season,” Johnsburg coach Rick Bailey said. “This tournament gives us an opportunity to maintain tournament-level tennis rather than have a lull for a few days between conference and sectionals.”

Leading the way for Johnsburg was Heather Matejka at No.1 singles, Nicole and Alexa Stroner at No. 1 doubles, Brenna Decker and Steph Nemec at No. 2 doubles, and Leslie Schmidt and Liz Lafferty at No. 3 doubles. Each went 3-0 to win their respective divisions. Sarah Coughlin went 2-1 at No. 2 singles and placed second.

Huntley (16) finished second and was led by Bri Roeser’s second-place finish at No. 2 singles. Jessica Williams placed third at No. 1 singles to lead Marengo (51⁄3) to a fifth-place finish.
