Family members displaced by fire

HARVARD – A basement fire that broke out in a single-family home Wednesday night left 10 family members temporarily displaced.

Shortly after 6 p.m., firefighters were called to a residence in the 700 block of East Diggins Street. When Harvard firefighters arrived to the scene, flames could be seen from the basement windows along with moderate smoke.

A combination of heat and smoke damage – but mostly the latter – was reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No injuries or other damages were reported.

Emergency workers blocked off the downtown road for a short time while extinguishing the blaze.

The Harvard Fire Protection District was assisted by fire and rescue crews from Hebron, Marengo, Woodstock, Richmond, Capron, Walworth and Linn Township in Lake Geneva, Wis.
