The Wolves tapped into the Blackhawks’ front office Wednesday, when they announced the hiring of Hawks scout Don Lever as head coach.
Lever replaced Downers Grove native Don Granato, who was dismissed this week.
“We’d like to wish Don and the Chicago Wolves the best of luck,” Hawks general manager Stan Bowman said in a prepared statement.
“We appreciate the time Don spent with us and are happy that he is back in the coaching ranks and is able to do so with a successful organization like the Wolves.”
Long time general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff left the Wolves organization to become Hawks assistant GM last summer.
Outshot for once: The Canucks had a 31-20 edge in shots on goal, the first time that a Hawks opponent has outshot them in a game this season.
Still no rookie: Even though goalie Antti Niemi played in six NHL games prior to this season, the NHL does not consider him a rookie because he turned 26 before the annual Sept. 15 deadline.
First ice time: Hawks defenseman Jordan Hendry made his regular-season debut Wednesday. He was a healthy scratch in each of the first eight games of the season.
Hendry had two blocked shots in 8:47 of ice time.
