Quenneville hopes to get duo back

CHICAGO – Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville was hopeful that forward Jonathan Toews and defenseman Brent Seabrook would be available before the close of the week.
On Monday night against Minnesota, Toews and Seabrook sat out for the second consecutive game because of concussion-like symptoms.
“I hope so, but I can’t say for sure,” Quenneville said of their returns. “We’ve been on the day-to-day program for a little bit longer than we anticipated, but their health will dictate when we’ll know for sure.”
Havlat returns: Three months after Martin Havlat left the Hawks against his wishes, the veteran forward appears to miss his former team more than it misses him.
Havlat entered the game with one goal and four assists in eight games. He had a minus-8 defense rating.
“He was great to me in the two years that I was with him,” forward Patrick Kane said. “It’s tough to him go, but at the same time, I wish him all the best.”
Watching the Wolves: The AHL’s last-place Wolves are off to a 2-5-1 start, a fact not lost on Kevin Cheveldayoff, their longtime general manager.
“After you spend 12 years in one place, there, it’s hard to ignore it,” said Cheveldayoff, who left the club to become Hawks assistant GM in August. “I left on good terms with [team owner] Don [Levin], so a part of me is still there.”
As for his new challenge, which some observers believed to be overdue for him, Cheveldayoff said, “It has been great so far. This is an exciting time to be with the franchise.”
Fighting to stay: No sooner was Jake Dowell recalled by the Hawks from Rockford than the center was involved in a fight eight minutes into his first game.
Dowell took part in the 2-0 victory against the Nashville Predators on Saturday night before he returned to the AHL club. In eight games, the IceHogs captain had seven points and a team-high six assists.
Thorn in the side: The Wild have been anything but a soft touch for the Hawks since they entered the league as an expansion team in the 2000-01 season. Monday’s victory was only the 10th for the Hawks in 33 games against the St. Paul-based team.
