Meg Wheeler, a recent college graduate, has her eye set on the ultimate prize: a husband. She persuades her parents into allowing her move to New York where she attempts to make herself irresistible to the dashingly handsome but lazy brother of the head of an advertising agency. Laura Armbruister is posing as her own substitute teacher because the school administration wants to put an end to all this drama nonsense, but they can’t close down the upcoming play until they find Ms. Armbruister to fire her. Meanwhile, fellow teacher and admirer, Steve Clarkson is doing what he can to help Laura keep her job. Story takes place in 1979 on the wedding day of Lizette Marquez. As she prepares to marry into a Jewish-American family, the play focuses on the conflicts among her and her three generations of family.
