LAKE BARRINGTON – Route 14 was closed in both directions southeast of Fox River Grove on Monday evening after a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Route 14 and Pepper Road.
A GMC Yukon traveling west struck a Honda Odyssey trying to turn from Pepper Road into the eastbound lanes of Northwest Highway about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Five people in the Odyssey were taken to multiple area hospitals with injuries, Lake County Sheriff Lieutenant John Crilly said. The two people in the Yukon were treated at the scene and released.
Barrington-Countryside Fire Department Assistant Chief Char McLear said none of the injured were taken away from the crash via helicopter.
“The injuries did not appear to be imminently life-threatening” McLear said.
Crilly said the injuries were “serious, but not life-threatening.”
The names and conditions of those injured were not available.
Ambulances were called in to the scene from Fox River Grove, Cary, Wauconda, Lake Zurich and Palatine fire departments, McLear said.
Crilly said the crash still was under investigation, and no citations had been issued.
Traffic was at a virtual standstill directly after the crash and was being diverted away from the scene while crews investigated the site. The road reopened about 9 p.m., Crilly said.
