Create your own library legacyBy AMBER KROSEL - akrosel@nwherald.comHUNTLEY – You can be a scribe or a historian. Or a playwright, author, poet or novelist. Those are the “job” descriptions that Huntley Area Public Library will be awarding to donors of specific fundraising levels in its new Creating a Legacy program, which is designed to be used toward a permanent building addition and other future improvements. It’s the donor’s choice whether he or she would like to be a scribe by donating the lowest qualifying amount – between $100 and $499 – or a historian by donating $25,000 or more. Depending on the contribution, donors will see their name engraved on a special wall plaque at the library in recognition of their efforts. The legacy program was established through a memorial fund that honors Hazel Kloempken, a Huntley Area Public Library district founder who died last year. Patrons can donate in their own name, for their family, business, in memory of a loved one, or in celebration of an event. Annual donations advance the recognition plate to the next level on the legacy plaque. The gift categories are as follows: • Scribe – $100 to $499 • Poet – $500 to $999 • Author – $1,000 to $4,999 • Playwright – $5,000 to $9,999 • Novelist – $10,000 to $24,999 • Historian – $25,000 to $49,999 Donors also may designate their tax-deductible contribution to a specific library purpose. All potential donors should check with their financial advisers about tax advantages, as well as planned gifts through life insurance, wills and bequests.
