WOODSTOCK - A 36-year-old Bull Valley man accused of viciously beating his girlfriend over three days remained in McHenry County Jail this morning.
Jeffery Ernest Mikell, of 1501 S. Valley Hill Road, held a 29-year-old Richmond woman in his apartment over a barn and beat her with his fists until she blacked out multiple times, said Sgt. Mike Cisner of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
“The offender released her and told her not to tell anyone or he would kill her,” Cisner said. “If anyone asked, she tripped over his cat and fell down the stairs.”
The woman sustained severe trauma to her face and head, as well as bruising to her limbs, Cisner said. He said the couple got in an argument late on Oct. 15, and Mikell took her cellular phone and refused to release her until late on Oct. 18.
One of her neighbors drove her to the hospital Oct. 19.
In her request for an order of protection, which was granted Oct. 20, the woman said Mikell and his dad drove her home. She said the attack started when he grabbed her by the back of the neck and punched her repeated in the face. She said he was under the influence of heroin and alcohol.
The woman said she feared for her safety.
“I am having nightmares,” the woman wrote in her request for an order of protection. “I cannot sleep at night. I repeatedly live it over and over again.”
Mikell was arrested Thursday on charges of aggravated domestic battery and unlawful restraint. If convicted of the more serious charge, he could be sentenced to between three and seven years in prison.
His bail is set at $60,000, which means he needs to post 10 percent to be released. His next court date is Nov. 5.
