Candidates file for county office

Democratic and Green candidates have filed petitions to run for two countywide offices in the 2010 election.
Woodstock blogger Gus Philpott filed to run for sheriff on the Green Party ticket. Mark Freund, also of Woodstock, filed to run on the Democratic ticket against incumbent Republican County Clerk Katherine Schultz.
Philpott is the second Green candidate to file for a local race – Frank Wedig filed earlier this week to run for District 5 of the McHenry County Board.
Two Democratic and two Republican candidates have filed to run for County Board seats since Thursday. Peter Merkel, R-McHenry, filed to run for another term representing District 4, as did Mary McCann, R-Woodstock, for re-election to District 6.
Incumbent James Kennedy, D-Lake in the Hills, filed for a second term representing District 5. Crystal Lake resident Lori McConville, chairwoman of Nunda Neighbors for Open Space, filed Thursday to run for District 3 on the Democratic ticket.
Every county officeholder seeking re-election has filed. District 2 County Board member Ed Dvorak, R-Crystal Lake, is not seeking another term.
Monday is the final day for candidates to file petitions to run in the Feb. 2, 2010, primary. The number of candidates as of Friday means there will be local Republican primary races for 8th Congressional District, sheriff, and County Board Districts 2, 3, and 6.
