Detour: Projects almost finished
By KEVIN P. CRAVER - kcraver@nwherald.com
Several road projects were projected to wrap up in November, weather permitting. They include:
PYOTT ROAD: Traffic south of Rakow Road is shifted to the west as workers relocate the roadway. The northbound left turn lane temporarily will be eliminated in favor of a shared lane. The relocation project should be finished by the end of November.
VIRGINIA ROAD: Virginia Road between Rakow Road and Route 31 is closed to traffic until November as Waste Management makes improvements to its transfer facility.
A detour is posted, but access to local businesses on Virginia Road will be maintained.
HUNTLEY: Work is ongoing to resurface Kreutzer Road from Wal-Mart west to the Union Pacific railroad tracks. The project is expected to be finished by November, weather permitting.
HALIGUS ROAD: Haligus Road, including its bike paths, is closed from Miller Road south to Geneva Lane.
A detour is posted taking drivers along Miller, Lakewood and Reed roads.
People visiting the Lake in the Hills Bark Park and the Public Works building will have access through the construction zone. Work is expected to be finished this month.
ROUTE 23: Route 23 between Harvard and Marengo is closed for bridge work. A detour using Routes 176, 47 and 14 is posted.
Drivers should also keep their eyes out for other projects and detours:
PINGREE ROAD: Pingree Road is closed to through traffic between Crystal Lake Avenue and Daniel Drive. A posted detour takes drivers around on Routes 176, 31 and 14.
ALGONQUIN: Hanson Road is closed to traffic until fall 2010 as the village and the Illinois Department of Transportation rebuild it.
The rebuilding will take place in two phases, but the entire road will be closed regardless. Detour routes will be posted and include Stonegate Road, Edgewood Drive and Huntington Drive. Village police will be patrolling the area to prevent motorists from driving on Hanson Road.
WOODSTOCK: Work to resurface Route 47 between Routes 120 and 176 appears to be all but finished.
