Kiwanis Club prepares for annual Steaktacular

McHENRY – The Kiwanis Club of McHenry is gearing up for its annual Steaktacular.
The Nov. 14 steak fry is the group’s most popular fundraising event of the year. Participants pay $25 for unlimited tap beer and a steak they grill themselves.
There’s also live dancing and entertainment provided by The Original Rockin’ Fenderskirts, a silent auction and multiple raffles, including a reverse raffle and a 50/50.
“It’s a fun evening,” event organizer Robert Peterson said.
He added that the potentially cold autumn weather wouldn’t be a concern.
“You’re standing around these warm grills, and it’s really pretty hot,” Peterson said. “We’ve done it in the snow.”
The club is seeking band sponsors as well as silent auction contributions. All donations are tax-deductible. For information on how to donate or buy tickets, call 815-385-7930.
The group usually raises more than $20,000 through the fundraiser, and money goes to provide financial support to charity organizations and scholarship funds, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Pioneer Center and McHenry high schools.
“Everybody needs help nowadays ... all the organizations,” Peterson said.
