‘Get Real!’ conference planned for moms, daughters
By NORTHWEST HERALD
CRYSTAL LAKE – Space still is available for mothers to attend a “Get Real!” conference this weekend and learn more about the relationships they have with their daughters.
The event will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Evangelical Free Church, 575 E. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake.
Walk-ins are welcome, but those interested in registering or learning about the conference can visit www.girlsembracing
truth.org or e-mail info@girls
embracingtruth.org.
The event, aimed at mothers and their junior-senior high school daughters, costs $50 for mothers and daughters or $30 for mother or daughter.
The cost is $20 for each additional daughter. The price includes lunch.
“Get Real!” is an acronym for Girls Embracing Truth Revealing Each Abundant Life.
Through speakers, music, dance, drama and other activities, the Christian-based conference aims to offer insight and wisdom to make the most of mother-daughter relationships.
A group of six McHenry moms organized the event.
In describing the event, they encourage others to: “Take this day with you daughter, meet her where she is at, understand her pressures, embrace her value, and leave with a renewed freshness and appreciation of the beautiful girl you cradled in your arms and the role you play in her life.”
Technology, such as Facebook, Twitter and text messaging, has led some to lose the intimacy in relationships, they say.
They’re hoping for at least 600 participants at this year’s event.
