McHENRY – A Parkland Middle School teacher and lifelong McHenry resident has been selected as the newest member of the McHenry City Council.
Geoff Blake was selected to fill the vacant seat left behind when Steve Murgatroyd resigned effective Oct. 31.
Murgatroyd cited professional and family commitments.
Blake, 34, was unanimously approved by the council Monday night after being recommended by Mayor Sue Low.
“In talking with him I felt that he would be a good fit. He just stood out to me,” Low said, adding that it was a hard decision.
Blake was among eight candidates who applied, including: Don White, Jeffrey Lieber, Kevin Justen, Katherine Backhaus, Stephen Doherty, Mary Mahady and Darick Franzen.
He will serve the remainder of Murgatroyd’s original term, which expires April 30, 2011. The ward covers much of the central west portion of the city.
