Teen ticketed in CL crash
CRYSTAL LAKE – A 19-year-old Crystal Lake man was cited Tuesday after his pickup overturned in a two-vehicle crash.
Joseph D. Barkley was driving his Ford Ranger north on Briarwood Road about 12:55 p.m. when he entered the intersection at Route 176 after stopping at a stop sign. He then was struck by a westbound Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by 20-year-old Michelle A. McGivney of Marengo.
“The force of the impact caused the Ford to overturn, then come to rest on Briarwood north of the intersection,” Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Dennis Harris said. “It landed back on its wheels.”
McGivney was taken by the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock, where she was treated for minor injuries and then released. Her passenger – Michael G. Wanfault, 20, also of Marengo – reported minor injuries but declined medical attention.
Barkley declined medical attention, as well. No passengers were in his vehicle.
All three were wearing seat belts, Harris added.
Barkley received a ticket for failure to yield at a stopped intersection.
Briarwood Road, north of Route 176, was closed for about 20 minutes after the crash.
