CRYSTAL LAKE – A bubbleologist, author, speaker and entertainer will give the keynote address at a child’s world conference Nov. 14 at McHenry County College.
The 21st annual Practical Ideas for the Child’s World Conference takes place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at MCC, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.
Geoff Akins will provide the keynote address titled, “The Art of Wonder,” and will demonstrate how he uses the “wonders” of bubbles, magic and storytelling to capture and redirect a child’s attention. Participants will learn how to identify and hone their own wonder-worker skills to inspire and motivate young students, according to a news release from the college.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with sign-up for 36 workshop choices throughout the morning. Opening remarks will start at 8 a.m.
Staff development certificates are awarded to conference participants. These can be applied toward the in-service hours required by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Continuing Professional Development Units are available for teacher recertification. Exhibits and vendors will be in the MCC commons area, where they will share valuable information on products and services for the early childhood educator.
The fee is $30 for the public and $15 for MCC students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education classes. After Friday, an additional $5 fee is applied. To request a schedule, call Amy Carzoli at 815-455-8764 or Marie V. Frostman at 815-479-7559.
