Hospital to be focus of Harvard Diggins Library exhibit
HARVARD – During November, a display case at Harvard Diggins Library will hold an exhibit of photos and ephemera from the old Harvard Hospital.
A special presentation also is planned Nov. 19.
The old hospital building now is the Harvard Retirement Home, at the corner of Route 14 and Front Street.
The 1866 building began as a church, then had several other uses before becoming the Cottage Hospital, then a nursing home, and finally the retirement home now owned by Bill and Kathy Schack.
From 7 to 8 p.m. Nov. 19, the Schacks will present a program about the history of this important Harvard landmark.
Find out what the “Pest House” was and where it was located, as well as what the operating room is used for now. The Schacks also will reveal what was left in the building and relate other fascinating stories.
Harvard residents with remembrances are encouraged to attend and share their stories. For many years, everyone in town was born in that building.
Harvard Diggins Library is at 900 E. McKinley St.
