Abortion notification law’s fate unclear

CHICAGO – It’s unclear whether Illinois will start enforcing a hotly debated abortion notification law this week after all.

After decades of legal wrangling, it appeared the law requiring physicians to notify parents before their teenage daughters get an abortion would take effect today.

But state regulators said a grace period for doctors had been extended several days.


Congressman Davis files in 2 races

CHICAGO – Congressman Danny Davis said he didn’t think filing petitions in two races for the February primary election would hurt his image with voters.

The Chicago Democrat submitted his petition for re-election to his 7th congressional district post Monday. Last week, he submitted a petition for Cook County board president.

Davis has until Monday to drop out of one of the races.


Man found guilty
of sexual assault

ST. CHARLES – An Elgin man has been found guilty of having sexual contact with two underage boys.

Michael Jackson was convicted Monday of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Jackson waived his right to a jury trial and had his case heard before Kane County Circuit Judge Timothy Q. Sheldon.
