Marengo schools to host parents workshop

MARENGO – A group of Marengo area schools will be hosting a free educational workshop Saturday for McHenry County parents.

The workshop is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon at Marengo Community High School, 110 Franks Road, Marengo. The featured guest is Dave Veerman, an author of more than 60 books about working with teenagers.

Veerman will speak on two topics: “Understanding Your Teen” and “Don’t Handicap Teenagers by Making Life Too Easy for Them.” Both sessions will address the principles of effective parenting and skills to raise a successful teenager.

Additional breakout sessions will be offered on topics including anger management, drug and alcohol awareness, texting and social networking, and healthy relationships. A panel discussion with various youth service experts also is scheduled.

Sessions offered separately in Spanish include “Understanding Your Teen,” “Anger Management and Your Child,” “Drug and Alcohol Awareness” and “Encounters Between Cultures.”
