Village seeks sponsors, decorators for festival
By NORTHWEST HERALD
LAKE IN THE HILLS – Each holiday season, the Lake in the Hills Village Hall is transformed into a winter wonderland.
Through the Festival of Trees event, the Parks and Recreation Department spearheads one of the year’s largest food drives to help local food pantries bring Christmas cheer to area residents.
Between now and Nov. 18, the Parks and Recreation Department is seeking local businesses to sponsor trees for $75 and nonprofit organizations to decorate them.
The eighth annual Festival of Trees will start with a traditional Santa Ride-In on Dec. 5. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by firetruck at 5 p.m. to perform the tree-lighting ceremony, then stay to hear children’s Christmas wishes.
After viewing the trees on display, spectators can “vote” by placing nonperishable household items under their favorite tree.
Trees will remain on display through Dec. 25.
All items collected during the event will be donated to the Lake in the Hills/Algonquin Food Pantry and the Grafton Township Food Pantry. The Lake in the Hills Village Hall is at 600 Harvest Gate Road.
To become a tree sponsor or decorator, call the Parks and Recreation Department at 847-960-7460.
