WOODSTOCK – Three people accused of stealing three shotguns from a McHenry home remained in jail Thursday evening.
The trio are accused of breaking a basement window of a home in the 100 block of Country Club Drive in McHenry on the afternoon of Sept. 28 and taking the three weapons, plus a barrel attachment. McHenry County Sheriff’s Sgt. James Popovits said the investigation was continuing, but police were unsure why the victim was targeted.
“Subsequent to an investigation, the weapons were found on the west side of McHenry,” Popovits said.
Arrested Wednesday on charges of residential burglary and theft were: Ashley R. Horeluk, 20, 2205 N. Channel Lane, McHenry; Jerrell D. Walker Jr., 26, whose last-known address is 2388 Dawson Lane, Algonquin; and Robert L. Jenkins Jr., 20, whose last-known address is 1717 Knoll Ave., McHenry. Jenkins also was charged with misdemeanor criminal damage to property.
Bail was set at $70,000 for Jenkins and Walker and at $60,000 for Horeluk. Each would have to post 10 percent of that to be released from jail.
The defendants are next scheduled to appear in court Tuesday. If they are convicted of the most serious charge, each could be sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison.
