Ill. GOP to crack down on negative ads
CHICAGO – The Illinois Republican Chairman Pat Brady said the state GOP would clamp down on any negative ads that “cross the line” by Republican candidates in crowded primary fields in both races.
Brady said the party “will call people out” over their ads because he didn’t want to have a bloody, divided primary.
Tax scofflaws
get outed on Web
SPRINGFIELD – Illinois taxpayers and businesses owing more than $1,000 in delinquent taxes are going worldwide.
The Department of Revenue has posted its annual list of tax scofflaws on the Internet.
There are more than 100 entries owing a total of $6.3 million.
Sebelius visits to get more kids insured
CHICAGO – President Obama’s top health chief is urging states and communities to help enroll more uninsured children in government health insurance programs.
U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius spoke Wednesday in Chicago at the opening of the National Children’s Health Insurance Summit.
The three-day event at the Marriott Hotel kicks off a national effort to boost and retain enrollment in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
U. of Ill. waiting on millions in funding
URBANA – The University of Illinois has received only a small fraction of the $317 million it is owed by the state for this fiscal year and has effectively frozen many open positions.
University spokesman Tom Hardy said the state’s government had paid the school only $400,000.
