The Illinois State Police, District 2, Special Enforcement Teams, along with local and county law enforcement agencies, will conduct a traffic enforcement blitz along Route 47 in McHenry and Kane counties today.

The blitz will run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The effort will focus on enforcement of five potentially fatal traffic violations to reduce crashes and fatalities. They are driving under the influence, speeding, seat belt and child restraint violations, improper lane use, and following too closely.

Similar efforts have had an impact in McHenry County by reducing crashes and fatalities by 15 percent, according to an Illinois State Police news release.

Participating agencies in the blitz will be the Illinois State Police, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department, the Huntley Police Department, the Lakewood Police Department, the Kane County Sheriff’s Department, the Sugar Grove, Pingree Grove and Elburn police departments.
