Christmas tour offered at Col. Palmer HouseCRYSTAL LAKE – The Crystal Lake Historical Society will offer candle light tours of Col. Palmer House with a “Welcome Home Soldiers: Christmas 1863” theme. Tours will be at 8 p.m. Dec. 4-6 at the historical home, 660 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children younger than 12, and $3 for seniors. Those attending will step back in time to the Civil War era, with re-enactors portraying local soldiers returning for the holidays, gathering with their families at the home of Colonel and Henrietta Palmer. As the women prepare for the holiday, the men discuss politics and decide whether to re-enlist in the militia. Children rehearse for their Christmas pageant and dream of toys and sugar plums. Music, decorating, food and gifts of the mid-19th century will be featured. A gift shop with local items will be open. Tickets are timed and must be bought in advance by visiting the Crystal Lake Historical Society Web site at www.cl-hs.org or by calling 815-455-1151. – Northwest Herald Comments |
