Bears' Bowman a ‘neat freak’By TOM MUSICK – tmusick@nwherald.com![]() For more Bears coverage, visit ChicagoFootball365.com
The Northwest Herald will quiz a Chicago athlete about the contents of his locker in an occasional series. After starting the series with Anthony Adams, one of the messiest Bears, we sought out “Mr. Clean.” Bears cornerback Zackary Bowman, 24, keeps careful watch over his nearly spotless locker. His jerseys hang neatly, and his shoes line up evenly from beneath the bench where he gets dressed. At times, Bowman’s on-field play has been just as neat. Bowman’s two interceptions are tied for the team lead, but he has struggled along with his teammates in two recent blowouts. Bears reporter Tom Musick caught up with Bowman before a recent practice. TM: Tell me how your locker is different than most of your teammates’ lockers. ZB: Well, for the most part, I keep my locker pretty clean. TM: It does look really clean. ZB: All of the papers that you may get, whether it’s an announcement or a reminder that guys will leave here about upcoming events and stuff like that – it will pile up. TM: You’re telling me. ZB: So once a week, every Friday, I’ll take the time to clean out everything that I may have accumulated over the week. TM: Have you always been such a neat freak? ZB: Yeah, for the most part. I’m a clean guy. That’s the thing my parents always taught me: Keep the car clean, keep the house clean. You never know who’s going to come over. People might talk about you. TM: I’m not a huge neat freak, but it drives me crazy to ride in a messy car. ZB: Yeah, you feel uncomfortable. That’s why my car is the same way [as my locker]. I clean everything in my car once a week. I just did it last night. When I have some time, I clean out all the little papers, the dirt, the grass, the leaves that get in there. TM: When you were a kid, didn’t you just shove everything under your bed? ZB: No, I couldn’t do that. TM: That was my trick. ZB: No, I couldn’t do that, man. That was the first place my parents went. Right underneath the bed. TM: So you don’t want to put up any decorations or anything? ZB: No, it’s just pretty plain Jane. I’ve got some hats. If you need to borrow one someday, feel free. TM: I might. ZB: And if it gets cold outside, and you want one of those little hoodie things, man, just go ahead. Comments |
