Badgers drop ranked foe

LAHAINA, Hawaii – Jason Bohannon and Wisconsin went outside the arc to take down Maryland.

Bohannon scored 20 points and Jon Leuer added 16, leading the Badgers to a 78-69 win against No. 21 Maryland in the third-place game of the Maui Invitational on Wednesday at the Lahaina Civic Center.

Trevon Hughes had 14 points for the Badgers (4-1), who made 10 of 22 three-pointers, including four by Bohannon.

“The difference was we hit more threes and they didn’t,” Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan said.

Greivis Vasquez led Maryland (4-2) with 18 points. He was 6 for 13 from the floor and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc.

The Terrapins, the top-ranked team in the field coming in, beat only Division II tournament host Chaminade. Wisconsin left Maui with wins against Maryland and Arizona.

No. 1 Kansas 89, Oakland (Mich.) 59: At Lawrence, Kan., Marcus Morris and Xavier Henry each scored 19 points, leading Kansas (4-0) past Oakland (2-3) that stretched the nation’s longest home court winning streak to 44 games.

Morris added 11 rebounds for Kansas.

No. 5 Kansas 73, Stanford 65 (OT): At Cancun, Mexico, freshman sensation John Wall scored a season-best 23 points, including clutch shots in the final minute that sent the game to overtime, and Kentucky closed with an eight-point run for a victory in the title game of the Cancun Challenge at the Moon Palace Resort.

No. 7 Duke 64, Arizona St. 53: At New York, Jon Scheyer had 16 points and six assists, and Duke used a 19-3 second-half run to take control of a win against Arizona State (4-1) in the semifinals of the NIT Season Tip-Off.

Nolan Smith had 14 points for Duke (5-0).

No. 13 Connecticut 81, LSU 55: At New York, Jerome Dyson and backcourt mate Kemba Walker each scored 20 points, and Connecticut (4-0) routed previously unbeaten LSU (3-1) in the semifinals of the NIT Season Tip-Off.

No. 24 Vanderbilt 84, Arizona 72: At Lahaina, Hawaii, A.J. Ogilvy had 20 points and seven rebounds to lead Vanderbilt (4-1) past Arizona
(3-2) in the fifth-place game of the Maui Invitational.

Penn St. 87, Sacred Heart 75: At State College, Pa., David Jackson scored 26 points to lead Penn State past Sacred Heart. (2-3)

Talor Battle added 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Nittany Lions (4-2).
