Too many turnovers hurt Huskies

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Adam Koch scored 15 points and Kwadzo Ahelegbe added 13 as Northern Iowa defeated Northern Illinois, 52-45, on Saturday night.

Both teams struggled offensively. The Huskies shot 32.7 percent (17 of 52) but the Panthers weren’t much better at 34.0 percent (16 of 47). The teams combined for only nine assists.

No. 2 Michigan State 106, Massachusetts 68: At Atlantic City, N.J., Tom Izzo won his 341st game at Michigan State, setting the school record for victories in the Spartans’ win against Massachusetts in the Legends Classic.

No. 6 Purdue 64, Central Michigan 38: At West LaFayette, Ind., E’Twaun Moore scored 15 points and Robbie Hummel had 11 points and 11 rebounds, and the Boilermakers beat Central Michigan with defense.

No. 17 Ohio State 110, St. Francis, Pa. 47: At Columbus, Ohio, Jon Diebler hit five three-pointers to get Ohio State off to a fast start, and the Buckeyes coasted to a victory against St. Francis, Pa.

No. 23 Notre Dame 64, St. Louis 52: At Chicago, Luke Harangody scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half, and Notre Dame bounced back from a poor outing to beat St. Louis for third place in the Chicago Invitational Challenge.

Northwestern 67, Iowa State 65: At Chicago, John Shurna scored 23 points and Michael Thompson added 16 as Northwestern defeated Iowa State in the championship game of Chicago Invitational Tournament.

DePaul 68, Detroit 66 (OT): At Rosemont, with no other viable options and the shot clock running down, Will Walker pulled up from 5 feet beyond the arc and swished the go-ahead three-pointer with 44.7 seconds left in overtime, leading the Blue Demons to a victory against Detroit.

Iowa 73, North Carolina Central 63: At Iowa City, Iowa, Jarryd Cole scored a career-high 24 points to lead Iowa against North Carolina Central.

Lipscomb 67, SIU Edwardsville 64: At Edwardsville, Adnan Hodzic had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Lipscomb rallied in the second half for its first victory of the season against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

Loyola of Chicago 81, St. Ambrose 42: At Chicago, Walt Gibler’s 14 points and nine rebounds led Loyola of Chicago to a victory against St. Ambrose.

Belmont 95, Eastern Illinois 62: At Charleston, Mick Hedgepeth hit 8 of 9 shots and scored 23 points to direct Belmont to a victory against Eastern Illinois.

Illinois State 93, Southeast Missouri 53: At Normal, Dinma Odiakosa scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Illinois State to victory against Southeast Missouri in the Basketball Travelers Classic.

Western Illinois 84, Greenville 46: At Macomb, Tommie Tyler scored 22 points and Western Illinois turned the game into a rout in the second half, defeating Greenville College.

Southern Illinois 74, Illinois-Chicago 64: At Carbondale, Carlton Fay scored a career-high 23 points and Southern Illinois used a 19-0 second-half run to defeat Illinois-Chicago.
