Today proclaimed Steve and Kathy Lamal Day
Cary Village President Tom Kierna's first act in his new role was to proclaim Wednesday, May 6, 2009 Steve and Kathy Lamal Day.
Kierna, who was sworn in Tuesday, also gave Lamal and his wife a key to the village, Cary's highest honor.
Lamal stepped down after six years as village president. He said he plans to spend more time with his family.
Here is the proclamation:
PROCLAMATION
Steve & Kathy Lamal Day - May 6, 2009
and Key to the Village
WHEREAS, Individuals who serve the public in positions of leadership are helping to achieve the important goal of building strong and vibrant communities;
WHEREAS, Very few individuals are willing to commit the time, energy and passion to public service that is required to truly be considered a change agent, a leader;
WHEREAS, Steve Lamal, who has spent almost fifteen years of his life in positions of leadership in Cary, first being appointed to the Village Board in 1994 and then being re-elected as a Trustee on two consecutive occasions, first in 1999 and then again in 2003, is a true example of a leader who is committed to the Village;
WHEREAS, Steve was appointed Acting Mayor in 2003 and then elected Mayor in 2005, serving in that position until the end of his term in May of 2009;
WHEREAS, Steve has extended his commitment to our community through support and involvement in the Cary Sports Cooperative, Friends of the Park and as Vice President of Cary Youth Baseball;
WHEREAS, Steve has utilized his time in leadership positions in Cary to significantly improve the Village’s finances and infrastructure, to expand and improve Village services and to help lay the groundwork for future economic development expansion, all of which will work to secure the Village’s financial stability;
WHEREAS, Steve did all of the above because he is committed to Cary, a small town which he helped grow responsibly into a more prosperous and better maintained small town, while, still being committed to keeping its Norman Rockwell character;
WHEREAS, Steve’s love of public service is second only to the loving commitment he’s made to his family, especially wife Kathy, who has been a true partner in Steve’s outstanding and longstanding dedication to Cary;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Tom Kierna, Mayor, proclaim May 6, 2009, as Steve and Kathy Lamal Day in the Village of Cary. In doing so, I further acknowledge and recognize, on behalf of the entire community, Steve’s outstanding leadership and Kathy’s steadfast support through the years, by awarding them with Cary’s most prestigious recognition, a key to the Village. Here’s to Steve and Kathy Lamal…and, I must add, GO PACKERS!
