Four homes to be featured in Chamber's Garden Walk
This year's Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce Garden Walk will feature four gardens and a unique private antique car museum.
This year’s annual progressive dinner, wine tasting and Garden Walk event is scheduled for Saturday, June 20. The event will be from 2:30 to 7 p.m., according to a press release from the Chamber. The Garden Walk is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Chamber’s Scholarship Fund, which has provided nearly $20,000 in scholarship awards to Cary and Fox River Grove students attending college.
This year’s tour features the homes of Ken and Sylvia Weger of Crystal Lake, Debi and Paul Tarpinian of Cary, Cindy and Tom Cramer of Fox River Grove, and Steve and Chris English of Crystal Lake.
“The Garden Walk is a first-class event that combines the beautiful landscapes we have in our communities with the opportunity to socialize and network all for a good cause,” said Neelie Kruse, owner of Cary Travel Express and one of the founding members of the event. “Participants enjoy fine wine, food and stunning local gardens while contributing to our Chamber Scholarship Fund.”
The Garden Walk will include a tour of Ken Weger's private micro-car museum. Weger has about 100 cars dating from 1920 to today. It is the largest museum of its kind in the nation.
Such cars, mostly built in Europe, are defined by their small size and small engines. Many of them are smaller than golf carts and go-carts. Some are no bigger than a lawn tractor.
The Weger estate is nine acres and guests will the chance to explore the grounds and museum, said Suzanne Corr, executive director of the Chamber.
The Garden Walk starts with a wine and cheese tasting at the first home, followed by a wine tasting, appetizers, salads and dinner at the following stops. Local musicians perform at each home.
Tickets to the event cost $70 each and include the progressive meal, wine tasting and transportation to each garden. Tickets can be purchased at the Chamber office, 27 E. Main Street on Route 14 in Cary, or by calling the Chamber office at 847-639-2800.
