Obama address won't be shown in D-12 schoolsPosted on September 8, 2009 - 10:31:52 President Obama is scheduled to give a national address to students today. However, the address won't be shown in any Johnsburg schools. Here's a statement from Superintendent Dan Johnson about the video:
However, in order to provide information to our families, we will make available the link to President Obama's presentation on our website. By providing the link, it will offer our families the opportunity to preview the speech if they so wish. This will allow families to each make individual decisions regarding the presentation which best fit their desires. We will be providing the link to the presentation on Tuesday, Sept. 8 when it become available. We hope you find this information helpful.
Sincerely,

Johnsburg residents treated to ice cream partyPosted on August 4, 2009 - 16:44:40 One Johnsburg neighborhood was treated to an ice cream block party Saturday, thanks to a resident who won an essay contest. Nicole Sherman submitted an essay to the Edy’s Slow Churned Neighborhood Salute essay contest, and her neighborhood was treated to enough ice cream to serve 100 people and scoops, tablecloths, nametags, disposable camera and napkins for the tastey event. Here's her essay an a snapshot from the party: "I am a full time working mother of five kids, and I love where we live; it’s the only place I would ever want to raise my kids. Our neighborhood is nestled in a small community that still has old fashioned values. We have a wide variety of ages in the families that reside here, some are young couples just starting a family, a huge family that home schools all their kids, others are couples with teenagers, and also retirees with grand children. We don’t have much money, but we all have big hearts, and our neighbors show it on a regular basis. Statement from village officialsPosted on July 21, 2009 - 23:35:42 Here's a copy of the statement Johnsburg officials released this week detailing why the village won't get stimulus funding for the SSA No. 23 sewer project: click here for statement More details about the WalmartPosted on July 15, 2009 - 08:02:31 Developers shared detailed plans for a Johnsburg Walmart store at a meeting Tuesday night. While today's article talks a lot about the proposed store's architecture and retail offerings, developers also touted its energy efficiency. The large Walmart sign at the front of the store will be lit by LED lights, which are supposedly more environmentally friendly because they have fewer carbon monoxide emissions and don't contain mercury. The store itself will have 200 skylights as part of a daylight harvesting system, so the store will use less electricity. "On a sunny day, there will be more light in the store with all the lights off than on a cloudy day with all the lights on," said Richard Hayes, an architect working on the project. There also will be a battery recycling center where shoppers can bring their used batteries to safely dispose them, developers said Tuesday night. What do you think about the proposed store? Will it be a good fit for Johnsburg? – Diana Sroka |
