Lach was named the Northwest Herald Softball Player of the Year. The senior hit 14 home runs, posted an area-best .609 on-base percentage and finished the season with an impressive 1.124 slugging percentage. Lach struck out only three times this season and finished with 53 hits for a .546 batting average. She shattered Jacobs’ career home run record, finishing with 30 career homers – doubling the previous mark.

Sargeant had a solid weekend at the plate for the Wolves in the state playoffs. The senior was 3 for 5, with 3RBIs, in the Wolves two losses.

Marengo's Abby Kissack finished the season with a bang. The senior was 4 for 7 in her final two games, with three home runs, seven RBIs and three runs scored. They beat Belvidere and lost to Sterling in those sectional games.

Morales has been one of McHenry's top performers all season. The midfielder showed that Friday when she scored with 54.7 seconds left against Cary-Grove in the Class 3A C-G Regional championship match to break a scoreless tie and give the Warriors a 1-0 victory.

Koepke pitched a complete-game shutout Monday against Crystal Lake South to seal McHenry’s outright FVC Valley Division title. Koepke held the Gators to four hits and struck out eight to earn the win. She also helped McHenry finish 3-0 at the 35th annual Harlem Invitational by picking up a win.

Ridout was 7 for 16 for the week, with three home runs and 10 RBIs, and also picked up two pitching victories to put him at 9-0. The shortstop-pitcher was 2 for 4 Monday in a 9-4 win against Genoa-Kingston, driving in five runs with a double and a homer. On Wednesday, he ripped a pair of homers and drove in three runs as Johnsburg edged Richmond-Burton, 5-4. Against Hampshire on Thursday, Ridout allowed three hits and one earned run in five innings for a 6-5 Johnsburg win. Ridout was 1 for 3 in both games against Crystal Lake Central, driving in one run Friday and two Saturday.

The Red Raiders' former closer, who was converted to a starter, came up big twice in a crucial week in the FVC Valley Division race. Kalish, who throws submarine style, won games against McHenry and Cary-Grove, to move to 4-0 for the season. On Tuesday, Kalish allowed two hits and one earned run, while striking out six and walking one in a 12-5 victory over McHenry. Kalish came back on Saturday, after Huntley had dropped division games to McHenry and C-G, and fired a three-hitter at C-G for a 5-3 victory. He struck out six, allowed three hits and two walks and retired 14 consecutive batters at one point in that game.

Schulz broke two records at the McHenry County Track and Field Meet (although she only got credit for one) in two of the most demanding races, the 800 meters and 300 low hurdles. Schulz finished second to Jacobs’ Lauren Van Vlierbergen in the 800, with both runners breaking the old record. Van Vlierbergen finished in 2:12.02, with Schulz at 2:14.42. Schulz then came back and ran 44.66 to break C-G’s Kathie Wollney’s 300 hurdles record of 45.343. She also anchored the Trojans’ winning 4x200 relay team and won the 200 meters. C-G won its sixth consecutive county meet team title.

The left fielder had 10 hits in the Warriors’ four wins for the week as they went 4-1, with three FVC victories. Borst singled and stole second in the ninth inning Saturday, then scored on an error as the Warriors edged Dundee-Crown, 3-2, in nine innings. He was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI in that game. Borst also was 2 for 5 with two doubles as McHenry beat D-C, 9-8, on Friday in nine innings. On Thursday, Borst was 3 for 3 with an RBI and runs scored in the Warriors’ 4-2 win against Carmel. He also was 3 for 4 with a triple and an RBI in Tuesday’s 11-1 victory over Woodstock North.

The Skyhawks third baseman-pitcher had a huge hand in their two victories as the Skyhawks were 2-2 for the week. In Tuesday’s 8-1 victory over Cary-Grove, Kordik was 2 for 4 with a grand slam and five RBIs. The grand slam came late to seal the outcome. On Saturday, Kordik made one of his best starts of the season in a 7-1 win against Antioch. Kordik struck out 10, allowed one hit and issued no walks. Kordik also was 3 for 4 with an RBI in Wednesday’s 4-2 loss to Harvard and was 1 for 2 in Thursday’s 8-1 loss to Huntley.

Jakubowski has been a force up front for the Red Raiders’ offense this season. She has eight goals, which is the top total in the area. She also has added two assists to help the Red Raiders start 6-2-0 on the season. She scored two goals in Huntley’s 2-0 win over Hersey early in the season. She then scored two goals in the team’s 7-0 victory over Larkin, and had the only goal in a 1-0 win over Crystal Lake Central on Tuesday.

Nagel picked up two wins both in relief, as the Warriors moved to 4-1 for the season. Nagel came in Tuesday and allowed one run in the final three innings as the Warriors rallied to beat Boylan, 5-4. He struck out three and did not walk a batter. Saturday Nagel threw 5 2/3 innings and allowed one run and struck out five for the victory. Nagel gave up a hit and the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th, but came back in the bottom of that inning and drove in the tying run. Nagel then pitched one more scoreless inning and the Warriors scored in the 12th for a 6-5 win.

Egekeze closed out his standout career with 15 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots as the Red Raiders lost to Rockford Auburn, 61-49, in the Class 4A Elgin Sectional Tournament. Egekeze, a 6-foot-8 forward, played on varsity all four years and finished his career with 1,114 points.

The 6-foot-1 point guard played a crucial role as the Golden Eagles won the Class 4A Crystal Lake Central Regional championship, their first regional title since 2008. Orange scored 14 points to lead the Eagles in their 43-33 victory Friday over Dundee-Crown for the regional title. Orange had an even bigger game in Tuesday's 55-46 semifinal win against Prairie Ridge. Orange scored 11 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter.

Andrew Marsden won his first state championship with a first-period pin against Montini’s Anthony Ferraro. In the Lakes Sectional final, Marsden lost to Ferraro for one of his two losses this season. Marsden was the only Class 2A champion to win by pin in each of his four matches. He spent a combined 6 minutes, 15 seconds on the mat in his four state matches.

D-C's Christian Brunner followed up a FVC championship with a DeKalb Regional title and a second-place finish at the Barrington Sectional to qualify for state for the first time. At state, Brunner, joined the top three ranked wrestlers in the state in the semifinals. Brunner turned some eyes when he beat No. 1-ranked Alex Benoit from Marist in the semifinals. Brunner lost, 5-3, in the 182 title match to Deerfield's Colton Emmerich.

Harvard's Adam Freimund won the Hampshire Regional at 285 pounds and helped the Hornets win a regional team championship and advance to the Antioch Dual Team Sectional Feb. 25. Heading into sectionals, Freimund is ranked No. 3 by illinoismatmen.com and undefeated this season with 34 wins.

Ali Andrews delivered a big performance in the Red Raiders’ comeback FVC Valley Division win against Prairie Ridge. The sophomore forward scored a game-high 22 points, including 19 in the second half. With the game tied in the third quarter, Andrews scored Huntley’s next 15 points. Andrews also scored a game-high 26 points in an FVC Valley win against Dundee-Crown and finished with 19 points in Huntley’s non-conference win Monday against Wheeling.

Eric Barone won the Oak Park-River Forest Invitational on Jan. 25 at 145 pounds. In the finals, Barone defeated Lyons’ Johnny Mologousis, 8-1. Barone also had a big win against McHenry on Jan. 23 to help the Gators win the FVC Valley Division title. Barone also was the FVC Champion at 145 this past weekend.

Cody Ferencz pinned his way to the 120-pound title Jan. 18 at the Urbana Invitational. In the semifinals, Ferencz (25-2) pinned Charleston's Zac Lawyer in 3:38, and in the finals he pinned Glenbard East's Anfernee Rodgers in 4:36. Lawyer in Class 2A and Ferencz and Rodgers in 3A are ranked as honorable mentions by Illinoismatmen.com.

Kelsey Schmitt had the hot hand last week for the Tigers, leading Central to two key FVC Fox Division wins. The 5-foot-5 senior guard scored a game-high 19 points, including the go-ahead four-point play in Central’s win against Woodstock North. Schmitt also scored 20 points – with five 3-pointers – to lead all scorers in Saturday’s win against Woodstock.

The Golden Eagles guard scored a game-high 18 points to lead his team past McHenry, 53-50, on Wednesday in a FVC Valley Division game. Jacobs got a big boost from its 6-foot-1 point guard in the second quarter when Orange scored 11. He hit all three field-goal attempts in that quarter, one for a 3-pointer, and was 4 for 4 at the free-throw line. Orange also scored on a driving basket with 1:15 to go that gave Jacobs a three-point lead.

Sarah Le Beau was named to the all-tournament team after the Wolves finished sixth in the Mundelein Tournament. The senior guard averaged 14.5 points for the Wolves and made 12 3-pointers during the tournament, including five against Vernon Hills.

Gregoire led Jacobs’ Hinkle Holiday Classic in scoring with 128 points and was named to the all-tournament team as the Trojans went 3-2 for the week. Gregoire scored 36 in a 59-50 victory over Jefferson. C-G lost to South Elgin, 83-80 in overtime, for the Consolation A title game, but Gregoire again was outstanding with 36 points. In his last two tournament games he was 21 of 28 on field goals with 62 points.

Rachel Rasmussen averaged 16.7 points in three wins for the Gators, which included a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win against Jacobs. The senior guard's performance included a 22-point effort against Marengo in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic on Saturday.
