Kozlak delivered in a big way from the No. 2 spot in the Golden Eagles’ order, going 5 for 8 with five RBIs as Jacobs won the Class 4A Cary-Grove Sectional championship. Kozlak was 2 for 4 with an RBI on Wednesday as the Eagles defeated DeKalb in the sectional semifinal. He came back with a 3-for-4 game and four RBIs in Saturday’s 8-2 victory over Boylan for the championship. Kozlak singled and scored in the first, then singled again in the fourth to drive in Ryan Sargent. In the sixth, Kozlak, a right-handed hitter, broke the game open with a three-RBI double to the fence in left-center field. The Eagles, who were up 4-0 with three outs to get, then led 7-0. Kozlak scored their final run on Owen Oreskovich’s single.

Dionne dominated in the circle for the Indians, allowing only five base runners in Marengo’s 4-0 Class 3A Belvidere North Sectional championship win over Burlington Central. The sophomore allowed two hits, walked one and struck out seven as the Indians won a sectional title for the third time in five years. She also added two hits and an RBI in the victory. Dionne has yet to allow a run in the postseason, tossing three straight shutouts and striking out 31 batters in 23 innings. This year, she's 24-3 with a 1.92 ERA and 249 strikeouts in 171 innings. At the plate, Dionne is hitting .468 with 12 home runs and 49 RBIs.

Jakubowski made the final pass to set up both of Huntley's goals in the past week. In addition to the two assists, her control in the midfield helped Huntley win a 3A sectional for the second consecutive season before being eliminated in the 3A Barrington Supersectional.

Mattson hit three home runs in two games last week as McHenry collected its fourth straight regional title with an 8-0 win against Prairie Ridge in the Class 4A Grayslake North Regional. Mattson led the charge in McHenry’s 17-0, five-inning semifinal win against Round Lake on Wednesday, hitting a pair of home runs, driving in four and scoring three runs. She added a home run against Prairie Ridge in the regional final on Friday, driving in two and scoring a run. On the season, Mattson is second on McHenry with a .426 batting average while she leads the team with 12 home runs. She also has eight doubles, three triples, 38 runs scored and 35 RBIs.

Panchapakesan won the Huntley Sectional on Saturday in singles for his first sectional championship and earned his third trip to state. In the sectional final, he defeated Belvidere North's Anderson Park, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. He and Park were seeded Nos. 17-32 at state. He lost in the fourth consolation round of the state finals to Barrington’s Ishaan Jaglan, also a 17-32 seed, 4-6, 6-3, (10-8). Pro-sets to 10 were played in the back draw in place of the third set.

Havlicek has been key for the Rockets during their 1A postseason run, scoring four goals in the team's last two games. In Friday's Class 1A Harvard Regional final against Johnsburg, Havlicek scored the game-winning goal, hitting a free kick in off the post in the 71st minute. Her first goal of the regional gave the Rockets a 2-1 win over their rival Skyhawks. Then on Tuesday in the first game of the Westminster sectional, the junior scored a hat trick as part of the Rockets' 8-0 semifinal win over Christian Liberty. She also had an assist in the Rockets sectional final win against Westminster Christian.

Miller qualified in three events from the Class 3A Hononegah Sectional Meet on Thursday to next week’s state meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Miller won the triple jump with a career-best 36 feet, 6 inches. She also anchored the Red Raiders’ 4x100 and 4x400 relays, which placed second and qualified for state. Miller’s anchor leg in the 4x400 assured the Raiders of their first team sectional title in school history.

Mahaffy tied a career high with 17 strikeouts against Crystal Lake South last Wednesday in a 7-0 Fox Valley Conference crossover win. The senior pitcher tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits and one walk, striking out multiple batters in six of seven innings (including four innings with three strikeouts). The next day, Mahaffy went 3 for 3 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored in a, 12-4, victory against Cary-Grove. On Monday, she pitched five-shutout innings with eight strikeouts against Grayslake North in the Tigers’ 11-0 FVC Fox win in five innings.

Bright was 7 for 11 for the week as the Gators had two important victories against Jacobs, which vaulted them into first place in the FVC Valley Division. Bright was 1 for 3 with a double and RBI in Monday’s 8-5 win at Jacobs. He was 1 for 2 with two RBIs in the rematch Wednesday, which South came from behind to win, 4-3. Bright also was 2 for 3 with a double and a stolen base in Tuesday’s loss to Dundee-Crown, which was the completion of a suspended game. On Thursday, he went 3 for 3 and scored twice, although the Gators lost to Lakes, 5-3.

Robins won the high jump and qualified for the finals of the 100-meter high hurdles on Thursday, the first day of the McHenry County Track and Field Meet. Robins cleared 5-2 to win the high jump and had the third-fastest qualifying time for Friday’s finals in the high hurdles.

Miller did not pitch any games this week for the Warriors, who were 3-1, but he was hot with the bat, going 11 for 19, with two doubles, two homers and 14 RBIs. Miller had a pair of four-RBI games, although his most impressive game may have come in a 10-6 loss to Prairie Ridge. In that game, the Louisville commit was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. The left-handed hitter had a home run against Grayslake North in a 12-0 win on Monday and another in Saturday’s 6-5 loss to Grayslake Central.

Faunce led the Hurricanes to a doubleheader sweep of Johnsburg over the weekend, providing the go-ahead, two-run home run in the ‘Canes 7-2 win in Game 1. Marian Central won the second game, 11-1, in five innings. The ‘Canes sophomore catcher went 6 for 7 in the two wins with a home run, double and five RBIs. On Monday, she had a double and drove in two more runs in a 5-4 loss to CL South, Marian’s first loss of the year. In five games for the ‘Canes, Faunce is hitting .625 (10 for 16) with a .684 on-base percentage, to go along with four extra-base hits, 10 RBIs and five runs. She has yet to strike out in 19 trips to the plate.

Marengo's Zach Knobloch continued his record-setting season with 30 points, including six three-pointers, in a sectional semifinal win against Aurora Central Catholic. The junior followed that up with 32 points in a sectional final loss to Rockford Lutheran. He had eight three's in that game.

Hampshire forward Matt Bridges scored 13 points in a one-point win against Genoa-Kingston in the regional semifinal game and had 26 in the Whip-Purs regional championship win against Kaneland. The senior finished with 18 in their sectional semifinal loss to Rockford Lutheran, just three points short of 1,000 for his career.

Jacob Heaver celebrated his 18th birthday Monday by scoring 17 points and helping the Giants to a 57-42 victory over Faith Lutheran in the Class 1A Alden-Hebron Regional. It was the Giants’ first regional win since 1987. Heaver came back and scored 20 points, hitting two 3-pointers, as the Giants fell to Rockford Christian Life, 88-68, on Wednesday.

Sophomore guard Carly Sidor led the Golden Eagles to a 65-59 overtime Fox Valley Conference Valley Division victory over Cary-Grove last Wednesday, scoring a game-high 21 points and hitting the game-tying shot at the buzzer to force extra time. On Saturday, Sidor led the Eagles with 14 points in a 40-29 nonconference win against Libertyville at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.

Eric Barone won the Fox Valley Conference Tournament at 145 pounds, winning three matches. In the finals, Barone beat Crystal Lake Central’s Logan Lundelius, 7-3. Lundelius is ranked No. 5 in Class 2A by illinoismatmen.com. Barone is No. 3 in 3A. The senior also won the 145-pound weight class by major decision, 18-6, at the Grant Regional.

Sam Kaufman had two big games as the Rockets took over first place in the Big Northern Conference East Division. Kaufman hit two crucial 3-pointers in the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s 72-67 victory over Burlington Central. He scored 21 points in that game. The 6-foot-4 forward scored 21 points again in Friday’s 75-45 victory over Rockford Christian.

The Johnsburg freshman shooting guard has led the Skyhawks in scoring in each of her team’s past four games (all victories), averaging 17.5 points a game during that span. Last week, Interrante helped improve the Skyhawks to 7-1 in the Big Northern Conference East Division, scoring a game-high 17 points in a 60-47 win against North Boone and 10 points in a 54-38 win over Marengo. On Jan. 12, the shooting guard scored a career-high 24 points in a 58-46 nonconference win against Grant.

The Golden Eagles’ 6-foot-2 guard scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Jacobs rolled past Crystal Lake South, 75-43, in their FVC Valley Division game Friday. Orange scored 16 points in the second half and hit a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter. He was 6 of 10 on field goals and 10 of 12 from the free-throw line. Orange leads the area in free-throw percentage at 85.3.

The Chargers’ 6-foot-1 forward turned in an unforgettable performance on the basketball court when he scored a school-record 42 points as D-C defeated Cary-Grove, 50-48, in their FVC Valley Division game. Seals scored 36 straight points for D-C. Seals hit 16 of 28 field goals and 10 of 11 free throws. Seals also scored 22 points in Friday's 34-31 loss to Huntley, giving him 64 of D-C's 81 points in two games.

Richmond-Burton wrestler Grant Sutton won Palatine's Berman Holiday Classic on Tuesday at 132 pounds to improve to 21-0 on the season. In the finals, Sutton beat Oak Forest’s Danny Swan, ranked No. 1 in Class 2A by Illinoismatmen.com, 9-5. In the semifinals, Sutton defeated Lincoln-Way West’s Noah Keefe, ranked No. 3, 7-2. Sutton is ranked no 2 but likely will move up.
