Outdoor holiday decorations are beautiful, add a festive atmosphere to the home, and help mark a very special season for the family, friends and neighbors.
The creeping thought behind that, however, is that what goes up must come down, and in the timespan of just a few weeks.
There are, however, some easy and efficient ways to get the effect without all that much work. Here are a few:
- What a difference a year makes. Popular moving color patterns generated by LED projectors have advanced to real artistry. Now, at such places as your local Ace Hardware, you can get projectors that move colored ornaments, traditional holiday figures, snowflakes, wrapped gift packages and other caricatures streaming across your home. If you want more light, choose a projector of different patterns of stars, a snowfall of different snowflakes, or a sweeping curtain of colored confetti.
- Greenery always stands out, especially at a time of limited daylight, gray skies and duller landscape. Artificial wreaths and garlands in varied sizes and lengths can decorate a window or door. Garlands can wrap around door thresholds and window frames. These are available with or without ornaments and lights. There also is a wide assortment of red and red/green ribbons.
- Not all artificial trees must stay indoors, and you’ll find them for outdoors in heights ranging from about four to six feet. They can come pre-lighted, which saves you the tangles and branch-by-branch stringing task. Some have ornaments, or you can add your own.
Ask your Ace hardware associate about the different hooks and other attachments for mounting, as well as extension cords and timers.
One more tip: for safety, Ace sells an extension cord case, a small egg-like container that snaps open and closed around electrical cord connections to keep out moisture.
