Shake off the Blues with Winter Fitness Classes

Want to learn more about food prep for weight loss or muscle building? Interested in adding safe weight training and recovery methods to your New Year’s resolution? How about building some new exercise and eating habits for 2018?

According to Joel Chapman, Fitness Center coordinator at McHenry County College, strength training in particular can not only improve body composition and bone density, but it can give your metabolism a boost too.

For healthy eating and meal prep, check out Kitchen Fitness, which also covers how to calculate daily caloric intake and tips for creating simple, satisfying menus and snacks. Class is from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at TruFitness in Cary. Cost is $19.

Ramp up your cardio, work your muscles, and shake off the winter blues with different styles of dance that focus on balance and flexibility while igniting your metabolism. Dancing with the Tribe runs 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20 at TruFitness in Cary. Cost is $10.

Feeling a little stiff on these cold winter days? Learn about stretching and other recovery methods to stay limber, plus try different types of equipment and exercises designed to increase your flexibility and mobility. You’ll also learn about nutrition for recovery (vitamins, minerals, hydration, and market supplements like BCAAs), and why rest periods are needed. Class is 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at TruFitness in Cary. Cost is: $19.

Lastly, get an introduction to Olympic-style lifts from certified personal trainers at TruFitness in Cary. Learn the proper form and techniques while getting hands-on practice to help capitalize on individual strength. Class is 8-10 a.m. Saturday, April 21 and cost is $19.
